NFL: Jaxson Dart to Miss Remainder of Regular Season With Knee Injury - injury update

By Alexander Davis — September 25, 2026
The New York Giants will be without starting quarterback Jaxson Dart for the remainder of the 2026 regular season after the second-year quarterbacksuffered a significant left knee injury against the Los Angeles Rams.
Dart suffered the injury on the Giants' opening drive during Monday night's 28-6 loss to the Rams at SoFi Stadium. His knee bent awkwardly after he was hit by two defenders, forcing him to leave the game after completing three of five passes for 20 yards.
Initial reports created some optimism that Dart had avoided a major injury, with the injury initially believed to be around an MCL sprain. Further testing, however, revealed a more serious situation involving damage to his meniscus, MCL and PCL. His ACL remained intact.
Dart is undergoing surgery to fully repair his meniscus, which is considered the primary issue with the knee. The expected recovery timeline is approximately four to six months, officially ruling him out for the remainder of the regular season.
The injury comes at a difficult time for Dart and the Giants after an impressive start to the season. In New York's Week 1 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, Dart completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns while adding more than 50 yards on the ground. The performance made him the first quarterback in NFL history to open a season with at least three passing touchdowns, 50 rushing yards and a passer rating of 130.
With Dart sidelined, veteran quarterback Jameis Winston will take over as the Giants' starter. Winston replaced Dart against the Rams and completed 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards with one interception.
The Giants have not completely ruled out Dart returning if the team reaches the postseason, but his availability will depend on how his rehabilitation progresses. For now, New York will move forward with Winston as its starting quarterback while Dart begins the long road back from one of the biggest injuries of the young NFL season.
