Fantasy Football: Week 3 Waiver Wire and Lineup Moves

By Alexander Davis — September 23, 2026
Week 3 of the fantasy football season is here, and managers are already making important roster decisions. After two weeks of injuries, surprising performances, and breakout players, the waiver wire could be the difference between starting the season strong and falling behind in the standings.
One of the biggest names to watch is Jonah Coleman, the Denver Broncos running back. According to ESPN Fantasy, Coleman is one of the top waiver-wire targets entering Week 3 after injuries to J.K. Dobbins and R.J. Harvey created an opportunity for him. Coleman scored a touchdown in Week 2 and could see an increased role moving forward.
Bryce Young is another player getting attention. The Carolina Panthers quarterback is available in many fantasy leagues and has become a potential option for managers dealing with quarterback injuries. ESPN's Week 3 analysis lists Young among the top available players, making him someone fantasy managers should consider adding.
Wide receivers are also providing plenty of waiver-wire opportunities. Devaughn Vele of the Saints, Dontayvion Wicks of the Eagles, and Denzel Boston of the Browns are among the receivers receiving increased attention after strong early-season performances. Managers looking for depth should keep an eye on players whose targets and playing time are increasing rather than focusing only on players who scored touchdowns.
The tight end position is another area of concern. Injuries have made the position especially difficult for fantasy managers, with players such as Brock Bowers currently dealing with an injury. That makes streaming tight ends based on weekly matchups more important. Several fantasy analysts are pointing toward players such as Pat Freiermuth and Juwan Johnson as potential short-term options.
Fantasy managers should also pay attention to defenses. The Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers, and Green Bay Packers are among the defenses being recommended as waiver-wire options for Week 3 because of favorable matchups. Matchups can be especially important when choosing a defense, since turnovers and sacks can quickly change a fantasy matchup.
Platforms such as ESPN Fantasy, Yahoo Fantasy, and other fantasy football apps give managers access to live scoring, injury updates, waiver transactions, player statistics, and lineup tools. These apps can make it easier to react quickly when news breaks.
Sports-betting websites and apps can also provide useful matchup information, such as game totals and point spreads. While betting information should not replace fantasy analysis, managers sometimes use projected game environments as one additional piece of information when deciding between players.
The biggest lesson heading into Week 3 is not to panic after one bad performance. Fantasy football is a long season, and injuries and depth-chart changes can create new opportunities every week. Checking injury reports, following player usage, and staying active on the waiver wire can help managers keep their teams competitive.
